Weslaco – FOX 2 news cameras were rolling at the Weslaco ISD special meeting on April 4, when Superintendent Dr. Ruben Alejandro was placed on administrative leave, effective immediately.

The decision came amid an investigation into sexual abuse allegations.

In another meeting held tonight, the school board followed through with their initial recommendation. Hannah Mackenzie brings us the latest.

They took that suspension one step further… Tonight, the school board voted to begin the process to terminate Weslaco ISD Superintendent Dr. Ruben Alejandro.

As of May 31, Dr. Ruben Alejandro has two years left of his contract as superintendent, but after the Weslaco ISD Board of Trustees proposed his mid-term termination tonight, its possible Alejandro won’t see those remaining years through.

“This is the first time we’ve received a complaint in this regard,” David Fuentes said. “We moved on it, we investigated it, and this is the action we’ve decided to take at this point.”

The decision comes after an investigation stemming from sexual assault allegations. David Fuentes, Board President couldn’t comment on those allegations, but told us Alejandro will remain on suspension with pay until the termination process is complete, which is expected last 3 to 4 months.

“There’s a due process that all employees that go through this are afforded,” said Fuentes.
