A well-known Virginia lawmaker is in the hospital after police say he was stabbed by his son in an attempted murder-suicide.

Creigh Deeds was found stabbed multiple times in the head and torso at his home this morning. He is a state senator and former candidate for Virginia governor.

Deeds’ son, Gus, was found dead inside the home. Authorities say the stabbing stemmed from a fight between the two.

He is listed in fair condition in the hospital. Investigators are not searching for any other suspects.
