A group of robbery suspects that took a 2-year-old along for the ride were caught red-handed and taken to an Edinburg municipal court to face charges Tuesday. And two of the three suspects could also be facing deportation after they finish dealing with the court.
20-year-Old Jiovanny Janne Galvan, 48-year-old Laura Martinez, and 22-year-old Jose Mejia were arraigned by Judge Terry Palacios. This after Galvan and Martinez were caught shop-lifting by a security officer yesterday at the TJ Maxx department store, located on the corner of Expressway 281 and Trenton Road.
A cop arrived at the scene and noticed Mejia was planning to pick up the two women and when confronted he decided to give chase. He finally gave up and turned himself to authorities in Pharr.
“It was then that they discovered the 2-year-old little girl that was inside the vehicle,” said Edinburg Police Lt. Oscar Trevino. “She was subsequently turned over to a family member and cps was contacted in regards to this incident.”
All three suspects were charged with theft, while Martinez had a resisting arrest charge and Mejia is accused of evading arrest and child endangerment.
