Community In Need Of Fire Department, Response Times Too Long

The city of Hargill is requesting a fire department, after recent fires caused damage to properties, due to response times. Hargill is an unincorporated community in Hidalgo County. According to the 2010 U.S. Census, the city has a population of about 877 people. Jonathan Lopez, a Hargill local tells Fox News that just last year the city got its first fire hydrant installed. Over 50 Firefighters Fight Blaze Near La Blanca

Another powerful fire reported in our area, this one near La Blanca. Over 50 firefighters and multiple fire departments came to the rescue and battled a structure fire last night into the early morning hours. Firefighters did say that the freezing temperatures did pose an obstacle and did take a toll on them.   Weslaco Fire Department assisted with tanker support as water supply in the area was limited. Elderly Man Loses Home To Fire

An elderly man is rescued from a house fire but loses everything in an instant. 85-year-old Pablo Gomez’s home located at 801 North Street in Harlingen was reduced to ashes after a fire was reported this morning at around 10 am. Firefighters responding to the scene but by the time the fire was suffocated, it was too late. Mr. Gomez says he was sitting drinking coffee and reading the newspaper when his neighbor alerted him to the flames. He is grateful to have been rescued but now needs the community’s help.
