Former Deputy Sentenced For Money Laundering

A former Hidalgo County sheriff deputy has been sentenced to federal prison following his conviction of conspiracy to commit money laundering. 49 year old Robert Ricardo Maldonado of Weslaco, pleaded guilty in may and has been sentenced to 144 months in prison to be immediately followed by 3 years of supervised release. According to federal court documents, from 2001 to November 2013, the former deputy transported about 40 million dollars in currency derived from the distribution of narcotics from various destinations including Detroit, Chicago, Birmingham and elsewhere in the Rio Grande Valley. Democrats borrow a GOP Idea on health care

WASHINGTON (AP) — Borrowing a Republican idea, a group including former senior Obama and Clinton advisers is unveiling a novel proposal to let states take the lead in controlling health costs. Individual states would set their own targets to curb the growth of health care spending.
