EDINBURG (KFXV) — Every year, millions of men, women, and children are trafficked in countries around the world, including the United States. South Texas College is hosting a two-day conference to raise awareness about this crime.

Experts say human trafficking is modern-day slavery – happening everywhere – every year, thousands of cases are reported, but many more go unnoticed.

South Texas College hosts the 12th Annual Conference to raise awareness on human trafficking. Experts say we are in a unique area where a lot of trafficking comes through.

Many myths and misconceptions exist about human trafficking which is why it’s important to recognize key indicators of this crime while escaping violence and poverty in search of a better life – those crossing the U.S. Mexico borders are at a greater risk of exploitation and trafficking.

Presentations will be taking place tomorrow – on the last day of this event – focusing on trafficking in the United States – specifically Texas.
