San Juan police are investigating an attempted murder case where a man stabbed his soon to be ex-wife 24 times in the chest and back. All this, in the presence of the couple’s 10 year old daughter.

Police responded to this residence on Scotty Street in San Juan, early Sunday morning. Upon arrival they encountered a 29 year old woman bleeding to death in the front yard. According to authorities, she had been stabbed more than 20 times by her husband after an argument over their divorce.

San Juan police chief, Juan Gonzalez, tells Fox 2 news, the couple’s only daughter witnessed the brutal attack. The 10 year old is now in custody of her grandparents.

We’re told a group of neighbors came to the victim’s rescue. Ezequiel Paz, who has lived in this neighborhood for more than 8 years, remembers seeing the couple’s home surrounded by police cars and several ambulances.

Paz tells Fox 2 news, other neighbors are in shock following the stabbing.

According to a police report, the suspect stabbed himself in the neck and asked police officers to kill him when they found him hiding behind the house.

Both the victim and the suspect were taken to area hospitals and are in critical condition tonight. For safety reasons, police are not releasing the victim’s name at this point.

The suspect, however, was identified as 37 year old José Luis Anamar Segura. Once he is released from the hospital, he is expected to face attempted murder charges.
