He remained at large for almost two years, and now he’s finally behind bars arrested on murder charges.

23 year old Ociel Alberto Castaneda was a fugitive of justice wanted in connection to a homicide investigation right here in Hidalgo County. Castaneda was thought to be hiding in Mexico; however, he was arrested in the Dallas county area and brought back to valley to face murder charges.

Those charges stemming from a deadly shooting that occurred on September 16, 2012 at a home on Kerps street near mile 6 1/2 west and mile nine in Weslaco.
According to authorities, that night Castaneda sustained an argument with the victim identified as Cristian Gerardo Landa.

Castaneda allegedly pulled out a gun and shot the victim to death. Castaneda fled the scene after the killing until he was located by U.S. Marshals in Dallas.
He’s now behind bars facing one count for murder and a 750 thousand dollar bond.
