Certain members of the now-disbanded Hidalgo County Panama Unit have requested to postpone their scheduled sentencing to enjoy the holiday season.
Hidalgo County Sheriff Guadalupe Treviño’s son– Jonathan– along with Claudio Alberto Mata requested through an attorney that the judge reset sentencing.
According to court documents, this could mean Treviño’s last Christmas spent with his father being that he faces a minimum of 15 years in prison.
As for Mata, he has asked to be allowed to travel to the city of Weslaco to spend the holiday with loved ones. The U.S. prosecution attorney declared not being opposed to the request.
The magistrate judge will be making the decision in the coming days.
