Millions of devoted Catholics gathered at basilicas around the world to celebrate Our Lady of Guadalupe.

At the Guadalupe basilica in Mexico City, the day was serenaded by traditional songs. Many worshipers come bearing torches as a way to show devotion.

Back here at home, the chilly and moist temperatures didn’t keep parishioners from taking part.

The event honors the appearance the Virgin Mary made to a Mexican peasant nearly 500 years ago in 1531.
