Moving now to Mercedes where a mortar shell was discovered by employees working at the fair grounds of the RGV Livestock Show.
Personnel at the site tell Fox 2 News the McAllen Bomb Squad was called in as a precautionary measure as it was determined that the ‘M-60’ explosive was an old 1950’s practice round. Adjacent to the property is a building that used to belong to National Guard armory, where such weapons used to be kept. The round measured about a foot in length. The bomb squad crew took the artifact for analysis while management says it will scan for similar objects on the property in preparation for next month’s livestock show.
