The government shutdown is keeping most IRS workers at home, but that doesn’t mean you’re off the hook for your taxes. Many of the more than 12-million taxpayers who requested an automatic 6-month extension have yet to file. The agency says the Tuesday deadline still stands.
But the IRS says it won’t issue any refunds until “normal government operations resume.” The agency also won’t have any workers to take calls or help in person.
Taxpayers can file their returns electronically using IRS E-file with free file system.
