Those waiting for the results of an HIV test won’t have to wait more than a minute thanks to the unveiling of a new medical testing program.

In honor of National Latino Aids Awareness Day, the Valley AIDS Council or VAC added the INSTI HIV test to its list of available services. The one minute test requires a simple prick of the finger. Other testing methods include a traditional blood test. Results can be produced in as little as 20 minutes or up to 10 days.

The procedure has been around for about a year, but VAC is the first organization to offer it in area.

VAC is offering this new HIV test as well as other HIV tests free of charge at their Brownsville, Harlingen and McAllen locations.
