A gas leak in the city of Edinburg prompts authorities to close off parts of Wisconsin Road as a precaution.
The incident was reported to police around 8:30 am by Canterbury Elementary School officials after noticing the smell of gas.
Fire Chief Shawn Snider tells FOX 2, that a maintenance crew from the Texas Gas Company broke an 8-inch high pressured pipe while digging near the corner of Danubio Drive and Wisconsin Road.
“Fumes… You could see stuff coming out of the ground. It was not smoke it was bad fumes… You could tell.”
The city of Edinburg says the gas poses no risk to the public. Crews will continue working to repair the pipe and seal the leak until about 11 pm with expected gas service interruptions.
