The alleged teenage driver behind a fatal pursuit with DPS troopers is growing up in the eyes of the court. The minor will now be tried as an adult in connection to the chase that happened just over a year ago.
Hidalgo county officials tell Fox 2 a judge ruled he will be tried as an adult today. The teen was given a 75-thousand dollar bond and charged with evading with a vehicle and theft.
We’re told trial proceeding will start from the beginning for the now-adult defendant.
Prosecutors say the teen was the driver of a pickup truck carrying nine undocumented immigrants during a pursuit in October of 2012 when a DPS helicopter opened fire.
Two Guatemalan nationals were killed. Department of public safety says the trooper believed drugs were in the vehicle when he opened fire.
