Controversial DPS checkpoints that rolled out across valley streets this fall are no more officials saying that decision is rooted in public opposition.

Department of public safety made the announcement yesterday, saying the campaign won’t be deployed again without lawmaker support.

Critics argued heavily that the roadblock operation was a tactic to trap undocumented immigrants. a claim the state has consistently denied.

DPS didn’t back down from the effectiveness of the campaign saying that the checkpoints in September and October heightened security.

The effort cost 3.4-million dollars.
