Authorities along the Rio Grande Valley are always looking to stay ahead of ever-evolving crime and this recent step is a major boost to Cameron County security.

The sheriff’s department unveiled its latest line of defense– a caiman armored military unit, a combat vehicle able to withstand high-impact ballistic attacks.

Being that its last stop was along the battle lines in the Middle East, authorities here along the border are sending a message that they will be prepared for any situation.

The unit is valued at $400,000 and was donated by the federal government, through a grant.
