An active duty soldier is behind bars accused of attempting to smuggle two undocumented immigrants through the Sarita checkpoint last week.
According to the U.S. homeland security investigations, Eric Rodriguez was in full military uniform when he was detained by U.S. border patrol agents for trying to smuggle two immigrants lying on the floorboard behind the front seat of his Chevrolet pickup truck.
Each allegedly paid 3 thousand dollars to be smuggled into the country and Rodriguez picked them up.
Rodriguez appeared in court this afternoon and was issued a 25 thousand dollar bond.
According to his attorney, Rodriguez is based out of fort hood and was on a 29 day leave and scheduled to return on October first.
