SAN BENITO (KFXV) — A San Benito man received a 40 year sentence for the 2016 shooting death of a Mission teen.

According to court records, Jonathan Alejandro Martinez accepted a plea deal, before jury selection took place. 22-year-old Martinez stood accused of the shooting death of Miguel Angel Alcala — a 17-year-old teenager.
A second suspect — who is a minor — is also charged, and believed to have been the person pulling the trigger that took Alcala’s life.
The shooting took place near the 5200 block of Coyote Circle in a rural part of Mission, after Martinez, his younger brother, and the unidentified minor allegedly attempted to rob Alcala during a drug deal.
The unidentified minor is expected to face criminal proceedings next month, and Martinez’s younger brother — Johan Martinez — is still wanted in connection to Alcala’s murder, as well.
Hidalgo County Crime Stoppers (956) 668-8477, is the number to call with details on this case.
