Hidalgo County (KFXV) — In 2015, two women were found dead on the side of the road, one with drugs taped to her body. The man accused of the double homicide is back in court.

It’s been more than a year since Vela was charged in connection with two deaths in Palmview, and — after several hearings — still no trial date has been set.

Guadalupe Vela was back in the 275th district court Thursday morning – a new pretrial hearing was scheduled as lawyers await the results of DNA analysis which are expected to be ready in June. Vela will face the judge on April 20th.

Vela is accused of murdering Yvette Garza and Natalie Hernandez in December 2015. According to the authorities, the victims were found dead with gunshot wounds to their heads – one of them had several bundles of cocaine strapped to her body.

Both victims’ bodies were found near the intersection of East Goodwin and Mile 2 Road in Palmiew after someone reported the incident.
