Mortar Shell Discovered on RGV Livestock Show Grounds

Moving now to Mercedes where a mortar shell was discovered by employees working at the fair grounds of the RGV Livestock Show. Personnel at the site tell Fox 2 News the McAllen Bomb Squad was called in as a precautionary measure as it was determined that the ‘M-60’ explosive was an old 1950’s practice round. Adjacent to the property is a building that used to belong to National Guard armory, where such weapons used to be kept. The round measured about a foot in length. The bomb squad crew took the artifact for analysis while management says it will scan for similar objects on the property in preparation for next month’s livestock...

75th Annual RGV Livestock Show Continues

The 75th Annual RGV Livestock Show taking place in the City of Mercedes is filled with great activities for the entire family. The 10-day Livestock Show attracts more than a quarter million visitors and about 3,000 exhibitors every year. Throughout the week judges will inspect and evaluate cattle, sheep, goats, rabbits and other livestock that local students have entered into competition, hoping for ribbons, recognitions and scholarship money to further their education. Since it began in 1939, the RGV Livestock Show has awarded millions of dollars in scholarships to 4-H and FFA Students who have nurtured and tended their livestock to become Champions of their breeds.
