Southeast Michigan has seen 495 cases of Hepatitis A and 19 deaths, mostly in Macomb and Wayne counties and in Detroit. Mumps Outbreak in Lopez Jail

Edinburg (KFXV) – More than 90 inmates at the Lopez State Jail are under a medical restriction due to a mumps outbreak. Department of Criminal Justice says that 6 inmates were diagnosed with mumps. They are currently in isolation cells to keep the infection from spreading. Two of the jail housing areas are also on restriction, meaning that nearly 90 inmates can’t leave their areas or have visitors. The restrictions will remain for 25 days. Top health officials to simulate disease outbreak response

TOP HEALTH OFFICIALS TO SIMULATE DISEASE OUTBREAK RESPONSE     BERLIN (AP) — Top health officials from the 20 leading and emerging economies are planning to simulate their response to a possible global disease outbreak. A memo on the May 19-20 summit in Berlin states the meeting will include a four-hour “tabletop exercise” involving ministers and representatives from international organizations. The Associated Press obtained a copy of the memo on Tuesday. German Chancellor Angela Merkel is scheduled to open the summit. She has emphasized the importance of responding quickly and efficiently to sudden global health crises such as a deadly pandemic. Among those taking part in the summit are Margaret Chan, the head of the World Health Organization.
