HARLINGEN (KFXV) — Harlingen police responded to a convenience store for reports of an assault. According to authorities, a clerk reported a man entered the store — located on the 700 block of Rio Hondo Road — carrying a knife and threatened a female employee. The suspect then fled, but a concerned citizen and police officer were able to detain the man after a brief pursuit on foot. Police identified the man as 20-year-old, Rene Martinez Jr., of Edinburg. Weslaco DPS arrest a driver after seizing roughly a ton of marijuana from the tractor-trailer he was driving. The semi truck was spotted by Troopers heading north on Highway 281 and FM 2812 and stopped for a traffic violation when the officer discovered 80 bundles and marijuana concealed inside boxes.
