Edinburg Couple Arrested for Sex Trafficking

EDINBURG (KFXV) — An Edinburg couple has been convicted of sex trafficking, according to the U.S Attorney’s Office. Thirty-seven-year-old, Abelardo Gomez and 25-year-old, Cerene Ortiz pleaded guilty on “conspiring” to commit sex trafficking of minors. In March of last year, according to court documents, Gomez brought a 14 and 15-year-old female minor from Louisiana back to his home he shared with Ortiz in Edinburg. During a two-week period, investigators say the minors engaged in sex acts with numerous adult males after creating advertisements on Backpage.com. Texas to launch massive youth-athlete concussion study

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — This week, Texas will launch what state officials say is the nation’s largest effort to track brain injuries among young athletes. The University Interscholastic League, Texas’ governing body for public high school sports, is partnering with the O’Donnell Brain Institute at UT Southwestern Medical Center for the project, from which they hope to gauge whether rules or equipment changes are improving player safety and what more can be done to protect athletes. Man Charged For Sexually Assaulting Two Girls

Edcouch (KFXV) — A man is being accused of befriending two women and sexually assaulting their daughters. 35 year old, Gilberto Pena Castro has been arrested. Investigators believe Pena sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl in July and an 11-year-old girl in October. According to authorities, in both cases, Pena was invited into the homes of these women and when mom wasn’t around, he proceeded to kiss the girls and touch them in their genital areas.
