30 Firefighters Battle Blaze in Brownsville

Brownsville (KFXV) — Brownsville firefighters continue investigating a fire at the El Gardin hotel. Officials say the hotel has been closed for several years. The fire blazed all the way to the rooftop located on the 1100 block of Levy Street. Firefighters say the low temperatures this weekend made the fire difficult to tame. They had to take breaks every 20 minutes to recuperate and after two hours and over 30 firefighters on scene, they were finally able to put out the blaze. No reports of injuries during the incident. Two Children Die in Olmito Fire

Olmito (KFXV) — A night of tragedy after the death of two children who were lost in a fire. Now authorities open an investigation to determine the cause of the blaze and why the children perished. Police and firefighters arrived on the scene on the 9000 block of Pagosa Street and found two children ages 3 and 7 badly burned. They were rushed to the hospital in critical condition but died a short time later. Officials say the children were left home alone. PROGRESO (KFXV) — In Progreso, one 87-year-old man and several other families’ homes are left in ashes after a fire today.  Officials responded to the massive fires on Maria Street this afternoon in Progreso where 87-year-old, Jesus Gonzalez Benavidez lived for the past 25 years. Mr. Gonzalez recalls his neighbor storming through his door and urging him to get out of the house.  As soon as he was out the door, he realized the magnitude of the situation.
