HIDALGO COUNTY (KFXV) — Today at the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Police Academy, a training took place that included Border Patrol.
The mission –learning to provide first aid to canines. Fox 2 news spoke exclusively to Hidalgo County officials.

Canine agents are valuable elements in the fight against crime as they help detect drugs or undocumented immigrants. However, they run the risk of injury by firearm or explosives.

The Border Patrol has more than 100 canine agents along the Rio Grande Valley, so it is important to train their officers.

The company that provides this training has its operation center in California. They provide this training to agencies across the country, and around the world.

There are 18 people who form the training team that consists of first responders to those who provide total recovery of the injured K9.

This training comes after several reported deaths across the state of Texas of these invaluable agents.
