A San Juan man has been found guilty for his role in a capital murder case dating back to April of 2013.
23 year old Edgar Garces Diaz appeared before the 357th district court today and was found guilty of capital murder for the shooting death of 21 year old Mayra Bianey Oyervides at a Harlingen apartment complex.
Oyervides was shot twice in the head… Authorities believe the gunmen intended to kill her fiancé’s nephew, but she was killed in retaliation.
Diaz was arrested months later while attempting to enter Mexico through Brownsville’s veterans international bridge.
The jury also found Diaz guilty of one count for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
State district judge Oscar Garcia sentenced Diaz to life in prison for capital murder and 20 years in prison for the second charge to run concurrent.
