Residents in Rio Hondo are left without a chief of police and without fire chief after the person who filled both positions resigned.

Close to three thousand residents are left with only four police officers and two firefighters to assist in emergency situations.

Keep in mind these officers and firefighters are working around the clock to keep Rio Hondo residents safe.

City officials tell Fox 2 news, Weldon Matlock, who served as chief of police for the past four years has turned in his resignation and will be in effect starting next week.

A reason for the chief’s resignation was not revealed.
