For organizers of the event, the objective was to provide a forum so that regional leaders may commit to working together for mutual benefit.

This morning local mayors from the cities of Harlingen, McAllen, Mission, San Juan and Pharr gathered at an event called ‘Breakfast with Mayors’ where they met with their counterpart of Reynosa in a conference setting.

Each representative of their city spoke about topics of mutual interest such as economic investments, the water debt, border security and job creation among others, with the purpose of establishing a common front.

The special guest, Mayor Pepe Elias Leal of Reynosa, in company of the Secretary for Economic Development and Tourism, Monica Gonzalez, expressed their strong interest in working with Texas and grow the bilateral relationships recognizing the border interdependence.

Organizers hope this “Breakfast with Mayors” yields another opportunity gather even more regional leaders next year.
