One Dead Two Injured in Crash, Alcohol May be a Factor

Authorities investigate an accident that left two people injured and one person dead early Monday morning.

The accident happened on western road north of Mile 5 in rural Mission. According to the Department of Public Safety — the driver of a maroon 97 Ford Expedition lost control of his vehicle and flipped over. The driver, 41-year-old Jimmie Alaniz Jr. of Mission, was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The two other passengers remain in critical condition. DPS says alcohol might have been a factor in this accident. The case remains under investigation.
