HARLINGEN (KFXV) — Harlingen police responded to a convenience store for reports of an assault. According to authorities, a clerk reported a man entered the store — located on the 700 block of Rio Hondo Road — carrying a knife and threatened a female employee. The suspect then fled, but a concerned citizen and police officer were able to detain the man after a brief pursuit on foot. Police identified the man as 20-year-old, Rene Martinez Jr., of Edinburg.
Martinez received a charge of aggravated assault and evading arrest, along with a total of a $27,500 bond.
