EDINBURG (KFXV) — In Edinburg, a discussion sends a man to the hospital and the suspect faces charges.

The suspect of shooting a man in the head was formally charged this afternoon.

30-year-old, Jose Alfredo Rios told the judge he did not mean to hurt 24-year-old Oscar Perez before being charged with attempted murder and tampering with evidence. His bond was set at a combined $350,000.

According to Edinburg police, officers responded to the 900 block of Lovett Street where they found the victim.

Investigators say that’s when Rios allegedly took out a .22 caliber pistol and shot Perez in the head. Perez was taken to a nearby hospital. Rios tried to flee the scene but was intercepted by the police and taken into custody.

Authorities say Perez remains in the hospital in critical condition. Meanwhile, Rios was to be transported to county jail.
