Brownsville (KFXV) — A man originally from the city has been imprisoned for selling membership into a Native American tribe.

61 year old, Humberto Reveles admitted to selling membership in the Yamassee tribe as part of a scheme. Reveles, recognized as the grand chief, claimed tribal documents would allow members to remain in the US and prevent them from being deported, allowing them to travel and work, despite not having immigration status.
He will serve a 33-month sentence and three years of supervised release.
