Lt. Governor’s consultant pleads guilty to fraud

The political consultant for Texas lieutenant governor David Dewhurst is going to prison.

FBI and IRS investigators arrested 58-year-old Kenneth Barfield, who today pleaded guilty to stealing close to 1.8 million dollars in campaign funds from the lieutenant governor.

According to court records, Barfield and his companies were in charge of paying, securing and subcontracting legal and legitimate activities on behalf of Dewhurst’s campaign in 2012.

Barfield admitted to using the money for personal expenses such as his mortgage, school tuition and personal investments.

He is currently on bond pending sentencing. Barfield faces up to 28 years in prison.
