The Valley AIDS Council reports that here in the RGV, there is an average of 4 new HIV infections per week.
The clinic aims to inform the public on a new pre-exposure prophylaxis pill, better known as “PrEP,” which is 92 to 99 percent effective against the HIV virus.
Director of Education Oscar Lopez said, “If you are in a risky situation where you can’t use condoms, and you can’t negotiate for condoms or safer sex, than one pill a day can keep you HIV negative and healthy.”
The Valley AIDS Clinic has offices in Harlingen, and McAllen, and provides mobile services to individuals who are unable to travel to the clinic.
You can attend the event Thursday called, “Latinos PrEParados,” which will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the Casa De Palmas Renaissance Hotel in McAllen where you can get more information on this new pre-exposure drug.
