After three months of his search, 20-year-old Billy Ray Sanchez walked through the Alamo municipal court handcuffed.
Judge Celia Garcia charged the young man with accident involving a serious bodily injury.
Sanchez is identified in this surveillance video as the driver who hit a 47-year-old woman with a black Cadillac and failed to render aid.
Since then, police had exhausted all their leads in search of the suspect until video was aired on the news last week
The victim in the footage spoke in front of our cameras a week ago blaming Sanchez for her dislocated hip and leg fractures, injuries that have mounted to almost $200,000 in medical bills.
Authorities were able to locate Sanchez thanks to an anonymous complaint by a viewer and through a police database.
Sanchez was given a $20,000 bond.
We also contacted the victim one more time; she says to be happy and thankful that justice is finally being served. Just another example of how important it is for the public’s participation in denouncing crimes.
