The head spot of one valley police department is now vacant… Chief Tom Whitten bid farewell to the city of Harlingen.

Whitten resigned after serving as chief for a little over two years… He will now be taking on a position at the El Paso county sheriff’s office to be closer to his son.

Cheif Whitten has decided to move back to El Paso where his 13-year-old son lives. We wanted to keep him in Harlingen, but it was a family decision. His son came first. We understand that.”

City officials will meet on Monday to decide on who will take over the interim police chief position… They want to assure residents that the transition will be a seamless one.
