Speaking of Greg Abbott, the future governor of Texas makes another big announcement today, unofficially appointing one of south Texas’ own as the new secretary of state.
After eight years on the job, Cameron county judge, Carlos Cascos has been chosen by Abbott this afternoon while hosting an economic roundtable in Brownsville.
Cascos, a republican, was recently re-elected to judge a week ago and will be continuing at his post until late January when he is expected to be sworn in.
County commissioners will begin a search for Casco’s replacement in the coming weeks. No word yet as to who would be considered.
