EDINBURG (KFXV) — Former priest John Feit accused of the murder of Irene Garza more than 50 years ago showed up in court for a pretrial hearing .
It had been a couple of months since Feit’s last hearing.Today was more of a status check as both the state and defense are still preparing for trial. That could kick off early 2017.
Former priest John Feit was escorted by sheriff’s deputies into the 92nd District Court this morning. The defense says they are gathering and reviewing evidence that defense attorney
Rene Flores says will take more time. The state and defense agreed they both needed more time to establish their case but did not petition the judge through a motion.
Judge Luis Singleterry set another pretrial hearing like today’s for December 8th where a trial date may be set.
Feit back in February was arrested outside his home in Arizona and charged with the murder of Irene Garza last seen in april of 1960 after visiting sacred heart church in McAllen. Police finding her body in a canal a week later. Feit had been a person of interest in this case but was arrested 56 years later and charged with her murder. As far as the state and defense this is not the first time they ask for more time to help them establish their respective cases.
