Federal agents at the Hidalgo International Bridge are cracking down on child smugglers.

CBP officer have taken five females in to custody since Saturday and charged them for violating immigration laws.

On Saturday, a 30 year old woman from Donna tried to smuggle a 4 year old boy who she claimed as her child.

The following day, three adult females were bringing a 2 year old boy and a 4 year old girl claiming they were U.S. citizens.

On Monday a 19 year old lady from Charlotte, North Carolina tried to smuggle a 21 month old baby into the United States.

The women remain incarcerated pending a court appearance and the children were released to a U.S. refugee resettlement facility.
