EDINBURG (KFXV) — An Edinburg couple has been convicted of sex trafficking, according to the U.S Attorney’s Office.

Thirty-seven-year-old, Abelardo Gomez and 25-year-old, Cerene Ortiz pleaded guilty on “conspiring” to commit sex trafficking of minors.
In March of last year, according to court documents, Gomez brought a 14 and 15-year-old female minor from Louisiana back to his home he shared with Ortiz in Edinburg. During a two-week period, investigators say the minors engaged in sex acts with numerous adult males after creating advertisements on Backpage.com. After abandoning the girls in April, the girls called 9-1-1 and reported the incident.
Gomez and Ortiz face up to life in a federal prison and have a sentencing hearing on May 16.
