$163,000 in taxes is what some residents in Hidalgo claim commissioner Rudy Franz owes to the county.

Protesters gathered at a city commission meeting this evening to voice their concerns about the tax debt saying Franz has not paid off due monies that date back to 2002.

Claims that the commissioner says are politically motivated. He says he’s been paying his taxes and outstanding fees and owing only about $38,000.

“The properties have already be sold and they have already taken over the taxes. What can I tell you?”

“How can he seek re-election if he hasn’t paid his taxes? He is supposed to be an example as a commissioner to pay his taxes on time.”

Franz tells us he plans on paying off his debt in the next two to three months.

Fox 2 will be digging deeper into the matter and will bring you an update to this story.
