A Cameron County couple is facing drug possession charges after Brownsville police officers arrested them for growing marijuana plants in their backyard, but that’s not all they are being charged with.
Diego David Lara and Melissa Martinez, both 28 years old, are facing possession of drug paraphernalia, child endangerment and criminal negligence charges because there was a 5-month-old child in the residence at the time when authorities conducted the investigation.
Officers found a total of 19.4 ounces of marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the bedroom.
Immediately the child was removed from the home and turned over to a family member.
Lara and Martinez remain in custody tonight.
