Donna (KFXV) — Authorities are following leads to recover evidence from a deadly shooting that occurred Monday afternoon.
A Mission Fire Department Dive Team searched a Palmview canal for the murder weapon but were not able to find it.
Donna police said the suspect, 51-year-old, Benito Hernandez-Ovalle, stated he had thrown his gun in a canal near Bentsen Palm Drive and Charles Street.
He adds they requested the help of Mission’s Fire Department Dive Team to locate the weapon.The search started around 8 this morning but was not found.
Hernandez-Ovalle was arraigned yesterday and charged with murder. His bond set at $1,750,000. He’s currently behind bars at the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office.
Captain Suarez says they’ll continue following other leads to recover evidence that will be used against the suspect’s case.
